Due to the similarities between Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Edward Grieg and Ludwig van Beethoven, it is only naheliegend, this is the 250th anniversary of the great Bonner Meisters einzuladen.

Brahms is often referred to as the German composer who was most stylistically and expressively influenced by Beethoven.

Both Brahms and Beethoven, despite the fact that they both came from Germany, lived in Vienna, and they were strongly influenced by the city. Franz Schubert, who was from Austria and what is today a district of Vienna, was very interested in Beethoven and admired his artistry. Franz Schubert was considered Beethoven's contemporary - born 27 years after Beethoven, but who died aged only 31, the year after Beethoven had passed away.

All the works on this program were composed in the period between 1802 and 1816, i.e. during the violent upheaval in Europe, which also left deep traces in Norwegian history.

During the concert, the two sonatas by Beethoven that have not yet been performed in the concert cycle will be presented. Both  sonatas are in G major and have something that can possibly be described as summery about them.

Sonata number 8, opus 30 number 3, is nicknamed "Champagne" - probably because of its bubbling energy and buoyancy, while the last work on the program has a very strong lyrical_cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_vein. In sonata number 10 opus 96 we meet a philosophical Beethoven, where the expression is more introspective and where the virtuoso is put aside in favor of a more quiet expression palette. The sonata is dedicated to the French violinist Pierre Rode, who did not like virtuosity as much as richness in sound and character.

In between these two sonatas we encounter two of Franz Schubert's sonatas. Both sonatas were written in 1816, but were not published until several years after his death. The sonatas are very Viennese in expression, that is to say that the dance is never far away and that the music is full of elegant melodies and clear gestures.

The concert has the following program:
