Om eventen
Were you at the All Saints concert in Grimstad church on 4 November last year, you heard the wonderful tribute to Jesus' immortality as the end of the concert. The movement, which is the last of a total of eight, was performed by Jan Bjøranger and Yejin Gil, who make up half of the quartet performing this Sunday. The other musicians are our own Øyvind Gimse on cello and the wonderful Ishay Lantner on clarinet.
Olivier Messiaen was in a concentration camp during the war and hardly thought he would get out of there with his life intact. Nevertheless, he produced one of his most significant works during that time: "Quatour pour la fin de temps" - quartet for the end of time. A short time later, in 1944, he wrote "Vingt Regards pour l"énfant Jesus", twenty meditations on the Child Jesus, for his wife Yvonne Loriod.
The concert, which points carefully towards Easter, concludes our activities in Grimstad and Arendal for this time.
